Never Forget that the LORD God Rules the Sheol Below as well as the Heavens Above

All the well-watered trees of Eden, the choicest and best of Lebanon, were comforted in the Earth beneath.

- Ezekiel 31:16

A certain Christian theologian (Andrew) has argued recently on his website called P.OST, an Evangelical Theology, that the Bible indicates: 'There is no relationship with God in Sheol.' Reading this from a somewhat prominent, published Protestant Christian author seemed a bit too much to swallow, so here is a suitable response to such a claim-

ANDREW:  There is no relationship with God in Sheol.
JUDEO/CHRISTIAN TRADITION: Yes, there is a 'relationship with God in Sheol' and the Bible describes the presence of God in the Sheol, repeatedly and vividly. The following Scriptural passages are just a brief sampling of this reality:

THE LORD IS EVERYWHERE, INCLUDING THE SHEOL: Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. (Psalm 139:7-8)

THE LORD SEES AND OBSERVES THE SOULS OF THE DEAD IN THE SHEOL: The departed spirits tremble under the waters and their inhabitants. Naked is Sheol before Him, and Abaddon has no covering. (Job 26:5-6)

THE HAND OF THE LORD CAN AND WILL REACH DOWN INTO THE SHEOL:
Though they dig into Sheol, from there will My hand take them; And though they ascend to heaven, From there will I bring them down. (Amos 9:2)

THE LORD EASILY RULES OVER THE SHEOL FROM HEAVEN: Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the LORD, How much more the hearts of men! (Proverbs 15:11)

THE LORD PUNISHES SOME AND COMFORTS OTHERS THAT HE HAS SENT DOWN INTO THE SHEOL: I made the nations quake at the sound of its fall when I made it go down to Sheol with those who go down to the pit; and all the well-watered trees of Eden, the choicest and best of Lebanon, were comforted in the earth beneath. (Ezekiel 31:15-16)

THE LORD WILL LISTEN TO THOSE WHO CRY OUT FOR HIM FROM THE SHEOL: I called out of my distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice. (Jonah 2:2)

THE LORD CAN REDEEM THE DEAD FROM THE SHEOL AND MAKE THEM ALIVE AGAIN IN HEAVEN: Shall I ransom them from the power of Sheol? Shall I redeem them from death? O Death, where are your thorns? O Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion will be hidden from My sight. (Hosea 13:14)

THE LORD EVENTUALLY REDEEMS THE RIGHTEOUS FROM THE SHEOL: O Lord my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me. O Lord, You have brought up my soul from Sheol. (Psalm 30:2-3)

AVOIDING SIN IN LIFE LEADS TO FASTER REDEMPTION FROM THE SHEOL AFTER DEATH: You shall strike him with the rod and rescue his soul from Sheol. (Proverbs 23:14)

As it is written in the Bible, the LORD God is an active and constant presence in the Sheol among the souls of the dead who are treated differently depending upon their sins when they were still alive. The LORD God rules the Sheol with justice and mercy as He has always done since the beginning of time.

Sometime during the Maccabean period (the second century BC), the letters of the alphabet began to represent numbers, such as the first ten letters of the Hebrew alphabet began to signify numbers one through ten, as seen in the presentation of the Ten Commandments.

- Starting from the top, then down to the bottom, these 10 letters also happen to be the first 10 letters in the official Hebrew alphabet. This is no mere coincidence.
- When written in English, the words for the first 10 Hebrew letters are spelled as follows- Aleph, Beth, Gimel, Dalet, Hey, Vav, Zayin, Het, Tet, and Yod.
- According to ancient Jewish legend, the first letter in the Hebrew alphabet, called 'Aleph', was also chosen by God to be the first letter of the Ten Commandments.due to its humble acceptance of God's wisdom and authority.    - Rabbi Mendel Torum has claimed that, even though 'Aleph', the first letter of the entire Ten Commandments, has a completely silent pronunciation, every Israelite gathered around the foot of Mt. Sinai, clearly heard it anyway because it had been spoken by God Himself.
- In the art of Gematria, a somewhat respectable form of Numerology, these letters specifically correspond to the mathematical numbers one (1) through ten (10) and are arranged in perfect chronological order as can be seen in both Exodus and Deuteronomy.
- Quite a few Rabbis, and other Jewish religious authorities, have pointed out the incredibly powerful influence these 10 letters have exerted upon the entire Hebrew language, including both the written and spoken words of literally every Biblical prophet who came after Moses.   - Specialized Jewish art, jewelry, and other collectibles, will often use this 10-letter version of the Ten Commandments.
- More than a few synagogues, especially in the United States, have decorations which depict the 10-letter form of the Ten Commandments.
- In a ruling called Ke’mo Ha-shachar (Ayin 23), the Orthodox rabbinical authorities banned any display of the Ten Commandment tablets including those which 'show the first ten letters of the Hebrew alphabet.'

An old U.S.Air Force-issued prayer shawl (tallit)...shows the old symbol for military Jewish chaplains (two tablets of the Ten Commandments, using Roman numerals to indicate the commandments), stopped by a six-pointed Star of David. The modern version of the Jewish Chaplain symbol replaces the Roman numerals with the first ten letters of the Hebrew alphabet.

The Tree of the Sephiroth may be considered an invaluable compendium of the secret philosophy which originally was the spirit and soul of Chasidism...The Sephirothic Tree consists of ten globes of luminous splendor arranged in three vertical columns and connected by 22 channels or paths. The ten globes are called the Sephiroth and to them are assigned the numbers 1 to 10. The mediæval Qabbalists also assigned one of the Ten Commandments and a tenth part of the Lord's Prayer in sequential order to each of the ten Sephiroth.

The Ten Commandments of Judaism and Christianity

Official Church Lists of the 46 Books of the Old Testament

(It has been decided) that besides the canonical Scriptures nothing be read in church under the name of divine Scripture. But the canonical Scriptures are as follows: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua the Son of Nun, Judges, Ruth, the Kings, four books, the Chronicles, two books, Job, the Psalter, the five books of Solomon, the twelve books of the Prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Tobit, Judith, Esther, Ezra, two books, Maccabees, two books.

- Council of Hippo, canon 36 (A.D. 393)

(It has been decided) that nothing except the canonical Scriptures should be read in the Church under the name of the divine Scriptures. But the canonical Scriptures are: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, four books of Kings, Paralipomenon, two books, Job, the Psalter of David, five books of Solomon [Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Wisdom, Sirach], twelve books of the Prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Tobit, Judith, Esther, two books of Esdras, two books of the Maccabees.

- Council of Carthage III, canon 47 (A.D. 397)

The whole canon of the Scriptures, however, in which we say that consideration is to be applied, is contained in these books: the five of Moses...and one book of Joshua (Son of) Nave, one of Judges; one little book which is called Ruth...then the four of Kingdoms, and the two of Paralipomenon...(T)here are also others too, of a different order...such as Job and Tobit and Esther and Judith and the two books of Maccabees, and the two of Esdras...Then there are the Prophets, in which there is one book of the Psalms of David, and three of Solomon...But as to those two books, one of which is entitled Wisdom and the other of which is entitled Ecclesiasticus and which are called of Solomon' because of a certain similarity to his books, it is held most certainly that they were written by Jesus Sirach. They must, however, be accounted among the prophetic books, because of the authority which is deservedly accredited to them.

- Augustine, Christian Instruction 2:8:13 (A.D. 397)

A brief addition shows what books really are received in the canon. These are the things of which you desired to be informed verbally: of Moses, five books, that is, of Genesis, of Exodus, of Leviticus, of Numbers, of Deuteronomy, and Joshua, of Judges, one book, of Kings, four books, and also Ruth, of the Prophets, sixteen books, of Solomon, five books, the Psalms. Likewise of the histories, Job, one book, of Tobit, one book, Esther, one, Judith, one, of the Maccabees, two, of Esdras, two, Paralipomenon, two books.

- Pope Innocent I, Letters 7 (A.D. 408)

(It has been decided) that besides the canonical Scriptures nothing be read in church under the name of divine Scripture. But the canonical Scriptures are as follows: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua the Son of Nun, Judges, Ruth, the Kings, four books, the Chronicles, two books, Job, the Psalter, the five books of Solomon, the twelve books of the Prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Tobit, Judith, Esther, Ezra, two books, Maccabees, two books . . . Let this be sent to our brother and fellow bishop, [Pope] Boniface, and to the other bishops of those parts, that they may confirm this canon, of these are the things which we have received from our fathers to be read in church.

- The African Code, canon 24 (A.D. 419)

The Bible of Judaism
Judaism divides the Bible into 24 different sections called books. All of them are from what Christianity calls the Old Testament. Furthermore, these books are then grouped into three distinctive categories known as the Law, the Prophets and the Writings. In contrast to Christianity, who founded their Old Testament upon the Greek translation called the Septugint (LXXII), the entire Jewish Bible was originally written in Hebrew. Interestingly enough, the actual authors of some of Jewish Scriptures, such as the Book of Job, remain unknown unto this very day. The precise method of organization found in the Jewish Bible, commonly known as the Tanakh, can be seen in the following manner:

The Three Parts of the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh)

I. The Law (Torah): The first five books of Jewish Scriptures written by Moses (5 books in both Judaism and Christianity)

II. The Prophets (Neviim): The books of prophecy written by the Israelite prophets who came after Moses (8 books in Judaism and 21 books in Christianity).

III. The Writings (Ketuvim): The writings of different Israelite kings and prophets descended from the 12 tribes of Israel who escaped Egypt (11 books in Judaism and 13 books in Christianity).

The Bible of Christianity
From the beginning, Christianity made a deliberate decision to use the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, called the Septugint, as their official religious text. This particular document contained writings that had not been officially accepted as holy Scripture by the leaders of Judaism. Because of this, Christianity continues to use an Old Testament which contains more books than the original 24 books of the official Jewish Bible called the Tanakh. As of now, the Catholic Church recognizes 46 books of the Old Testament, while nearly all of Protestant Christianity accept only 39 books as official Scripture. Unlike Judaism, Christianity also features an entirely different section of the Bible called the New Testament, which contains 27 different texts about a Jew named Rabbi Joshua ben Joseph, the Nazarene (Jesus Christ). Unlike Judaism, who continued to read, study, and recite their Scriptures in its oriignal language of Hebrew, Christianity has managed to translate and publish the Holy Bible in over 1,400 different languages (some 2,000). Here are just a few numerical facts about the Christian Holy Bible, including both the Old and New Testament as it appears in the English language:

Part IV. Metaphorical Use of Both the Eye Below and Above

You are to take a life for a life,
an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot, a burn for a burn, a wound for a wound, a bruise for a bruise.

Part IV. Metaphorical Use of Both the Eye Below and Above

Heaven + Earth = God's Creation

- Deuteronomy Rabba 2
